Texas Certified Retirement Community
Winnsboro is designated as a State Certified Retirement Community. The Certification inidcates that Winnsboro is one of five communities in Texas recognized by the State as a desirable palce for people to Retire and for retirees to visit.
An assessment was conducted on the overall community profile. Winnsboro is the smallest certifed community with 3600 population. Other communities include Duncansville, Lufkin, Athens, and Nacogdoches.

Economic Development
Winnsboro Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) supports current industries while striving to recruit new ones. Last year, Winnsboro experienced a sales tax revenue growth of approximately 30% while adding jobs to the community at an unprecedented rate. This leads the state in communities exceeding 4,000 people without major retailers like Wal-Mart.
The WEDC is competitive and innovative. They have implemented numerous programs and have received $200,000 in funds to loan for small businesses from the USDA and ORCA.
Winnsboro is seeing exciting times. The interior of the community is beautifying, more jobs are being implemented, and tourism is on a steady rise. The environment is ripe for new industry and retail.
Lastly, the WEDC is projected to fund full utilities to the 99 acres available for development near the airport. |
